Patan is protected by UNESCO world heritage site. Patan is the second largest city in the valley. It is some time referred to as Lalitpur, which means city of beauty. It an architectural feast with a far greater concentration of temples per square meter than in Kathmandu or Bhaktipur. The Patan Durbar square is a concentrated mass of temples, undoubtedly the most visually stunning display of Newari architecture to be seen in Nepal. The ancient city is located on the southern bank of the holy Bagmati River and is approximately five kilometers south-east of the capital. The whole city is full of Buddhist monuments and Hindu temples with fine bronze gateways, marvelous statues, guardian deities and magnificent carvings including stone carving, metal carving and wood carving. Well noted for its gorgeous craftsmen and metal workers, it is often known as the city of superb artists. The majority of the citizens follow the Buddhist faith.

The ancient city Patan, situated 5km Southeast of Katmandu, it is known as the city of fine arts. The city is full on Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments. The diversity of medieval culture that allowed both Hinduism and Buddhism for low rich has left a rich legacy of Impressive sightseeing in this city for visitors. Patan Durbar Square constitutes the focus of visitors' attraction. The square is full of ancient palaces, temples, and shrine noted for their exquisite carvings. The square consists three main courtyards, the central courtyards, Sundari Courtyards, and many other courtyards. The Sundari Courtyards holds in its center a master piece of stone architecture.

Temple house is a recently converted hotel right next to Durbar Square in Patan. The beautiful rooms are clean, tidy and are designed traditionally with ornate wood and stone work. Our en-suite room overlooked both the courtyard to the rear and the vibrant alleyway to the front with views of the locals going about their daily business. I think the charm of Thamel has disappeared over the last decade and more visitors want to stay in places where they are closer to the Nepali culture. Both this area and hotel offer this making it a good base whilst in Kathmandu. The staff can't do enough to help you in this quaint gem, I would certainly stay there again. So near to all places of interest. The hosts at the lovely temple house couldn't be more accommodating and welcoming. They also have a temple house restaurant only 2 minutes away. After staying here we would never go back to staying in Thamel . The comfort and cleanliness were excellent. Having been to Nepal for the eighth time this was our best experience yet. The local location is perfect, very quiet, the rooms are very well suited beautifully and also for a longer stay. The rooms are also well suited for families!
